Vegan Store Cupboard Essentials

Even though times are changing and veganism is gathering more and more momentum, there is still the belief that it’s restrictive and difficult floating around.

But this isn’t the case! There are so many different meals and sweet treats that can be made with the same few ingredients, which means it’s much easier that you probably think.

So, what are these store cupboard essentials that will make your vegan transition nice and easy… as well as everyday cooking afterwards? The list has been broken up into long-life cupboard goods and fresh fridge goods…

Long-life Cupboard 

  1. Chickpeas

  2. Lentils

  3. Mixed Beans

  4. Nutritional Yeast

  5. Oats

  6. Coconut Milk (Tinned)

  7. Marmite

  8. Flax Seed

  9. Cashews

  10. Liquid Smoke

All of these are on top of the usual staples, like flour, pasta, herbs and spices, tinned tomatoes, baked beans, and all your favourite nuts/seeds.

Fresh Fridge Goods 

  1. Mushrooms

  2. Tofu

  3. Dairy-Free Milk

  4. Dairy-Free Butter

  5. Cabbage

  6. Cauliflower

  7. Spinach

  8. Carrots

  9. Peppers

  10. Fresh Fruit 

All of these are on top of any dairy-free cheese and yoghurt, as well as any other veg you love. Those on the list are the most common and so, are perfect to keep replenishing, but you may find other staples that will make it into your store cupboard. 


As you experiment with more recipes and find what you enjoy, your store cupboard is guaranteed to expand… but it’s good to have a starting point!
