Hill & Ellis has teamed up with Ecologi to plant a tree for every pannier bag bought online through the Hill & Ellis website.

With the push to reduce our carbon footprint, cycling is perfect – and with the help of Hill & Ellis, we can cycle in style as well as making our impact. To add to this initiative, they are also working to become 100% plastic free… it just gets better!

Ecologi is an environmental not-for-profit that works with grassroots projects across the world to reduce carbon in the atmosphere. Hill & Ellis is supporting their project in Madagascar where they are re-planting mangrove forests in the north west coast of the island.

Mangrove forests are crucial in the fight to reverse climate change. They are critical in stopping the erosion of coastal villages threatened by rising sea levels, they also protect local marine life and ecology and Mangrove trees are up to 10 times more effective at hoarding carbon than other ecosystems. So, one little sapling can make a big difference.

The forests are all grown by local communities, on protected land and all the saplings are propagated locally from native plants.

In addition to planting one tree for every bag sold, Hill & Ellis has committed to having a climate positive workforce and are working with Ecologi to support their carbon offsetting projects.

We all know that plastic is a pressing problem, with urgent changes needed across all industries. Well, Hill & Ellis are working to become 100% plastic free! Their bags are packaged in ‘ethically produced cotton bags’ within recyclable cardboard boxes. To protect the bags, a vegetable based plastic free garment bag is used. These do not harm the environment or animals within, as they can be dissolved in hot water and drunk by humans!

Their vegan canvas range is free of harmful chemicals to repel water, unlike other companies, reducing harm to the environment. In addition, their leather bags can be recycled at the end of their life, to reduce waste.

More great news, is that they are working to create a range made from recycled plastic, sourced from discarded fishing nets and plastic bottles. Amazing!
